SINTEF is one of the largest independent research organisations in Northern Europe. With more than 2000 employees from more than 70 countries, it aims to develop Technology for a Better Society at the interface between academia and industry. The institute SINTEF Industry is with approx. 450 staff the largest institute of SINTEF AS and has among others focus on sustainable energy solutions, including hydrogen, photovoltaic, and bio-based fuels. For many years, SINTEF has been developing innovative solutions for many industrial customers in Norway and Europe. We constantly seek synergies between different competences available at SINTEF to deliver optimal solution for our clients and in publicly funded research projects to produce high quality research results. R&D for the Bioeconomy at SINTEF Industry builds on complementary, and often synergistic competences in the fields of industrial biotechnology and chemical process technology. The Department of Biotechnology and Nanomedicine has extensive experience and state-of-the-art infrastructure for performing microbial strain development (using classical and modern molecular biology approaches), fermentation (millilitre to 300L pilot scale), high throughput screening, and advanced MS-based chemical analysis.
