LSIWC research activities and capacities allows identifying three excellences of Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry:  Excellence No.1 Wood and wood materials with upgraded properties for construction: protection, modification, renovation, maintenance;  Excellence No.2 Biorefinery approach for producing chemical compounds and products (pulp, paper, sorbents, composite materials, etc.), and obtaining bio-fuel (bio-oil) from wood, its waste, recyclable materials and other types of biomass;  Excellence No.3. Production of green chemistry products and green polymers from wood and plant biomass and its processing residues.
