TNO, The Netherland’s Organisation of Applied Scientific Research, is an independent not-for-profit research organization in The Netherlands, whose expertise and research make an important contribution to the competitiveness of companies and organisations, to the economy and to the quality of society as a whole. TNO has about 3500 employees working in main research areas, energy being a leading theme. TNO’s mission is to support industry and society in general in transforming scientific knowledge into applicable products and processes of economic and societal value. TNO participates and has participated, both as coordinator and partner, in a large number of national and international research programmes, including many FP6 and FP7-projects.
TNO and Stichting Energieonderzoek Centrum Nederland (ECN) have merged as of April 1st, 2018. The sustainable research and development formerly ECN will now continue as “ECN part of TNO” and is referred to in this document as TNO. As a consequence all ECN business including the employees, all current projects, contracts and facilities relating to the sustainable business of ECN have been transferred to TNO as of April 2018.
