SUMMARY:Study Visit and Scale-Up Workshop @ Food Pilot\, Belgium
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Food Pilot websiteAgenda\n12:00 Welcome lunch \n13:00 Food Pilot introduction – Opportunities of the collaborative project PILOTS \n13:20 Case studies \n\nProtein functionality of concentrates obtained via extraction by wet fractionation (yellow pea and blond lentil)\nProtein functionality of drum-dried microbial biomass\nProtein functionality of concentrates obtained via dry fractionation (yellow pea and blond lentil)\nFibre quality of drum-dried sugarbeet pulp and brewer’s spent grain\n\n14:30 Coffee break – preparing for pilot plant visit \n15:00 Demonstrations at the pilot plant \n\nLive demo: Decanter centrifugation (fractionation of wet biomass for protein extraction): blond lentils will be milled\, incubated in reaction vessels\, and subsequently separated into a solid and liquid fraction.\nLive demo: Extrusion (texturization): dry extrusion of a protein-rich yellow pea concentrate to create structured textures through combined pressure and thermal treatment. The concentrate used is obtained via dry fractionation (performed externally as a mild processing step).\nLive demo: Drum dryer: thin layer drying on heated rolls. Beet pulp – a side stream from sugar extraction of sugar beet – will be used as demonstration material.\nVisiting other pilot halls: lab-scale high moisture extrusion\, lab-scale spray drying\, protein bar processing line\n\n16:30 Networking drink \n16:30 Option to visit full pilot plant and laboratory: including UHT hall\, fermenter hall\, cell disruption techniques\, bakery hall\, sensory lab\, protein functionality lab\, etc. \n17:30 End \nRegistration & Practical Information\nTarget audience\nAll bioeconomy stakeholders\, where possible with a focus on BioInnovators (Technology Owners). \nRegistration\nPlease click the link below \nREGISTERMore information &  Accommodation\nPlease\, contact: Karen Verstraete  \nSatellite events The ProteInn Club Industrial Sounding Board Meeting\nThe ProteInn Club is a collaboration between Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant\, Ghent University\, the Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture\, Fisheries\, and Food (ILVO)\, and CAPTURE. The club’s ambition is to facilitate innovations and accelerate the development of a unique fermentation-based protein ecosystem. Members of the Industrial Sounding Board are positioned at various points within the value chain of fermentation-based proteins. On the one hand\, there are companies developing fermentation processes\, while on the other\, there are companies producing side streams that can be used as feedstock for these processes\, and companies interested in incorporating fermentation-based proteins into their end products. The overall goals of the club are to connect the partners along this value chain\, foster the developing ecosystem\, and raise awareness about fermentation-derived proteins. During this event\, the core team of The ProteInn Club will link up with the full Industrial Sounding Board to discuss the latest developments in the fermentation-based protein landscape. Topics can include updates on ongoing projects\, interesting upcoming funding calls\, policy briefs\, and the presentation of new ProteInn Club members. This is a private event. Attendance by invitation only. \nSatellite events Seeing is believing: Study Visit to the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant\nHop on the shuttle bus to the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant and discover what scale-up is and looks like!
